Border Security Bill Sent to President

For background on this bill, see Border Security Bills Propose Increase in H-1 and L-1 Fees!

The U.S. Senate convened a special session on August 12, rather than waiting until September to vote on the $600 million border security bill. The Senate voted to approve the bill, and it is with President Obama awaiting signature. It is expected that the President will sign this bill promptly.

The bill includes a significant increase for H1B and L-1 filing fees, as the source of funding the additional security efforts. This would impact employers with more than 50 employees, if over 50 percent of the employer’s U.S. workforce is comprised of H1B or L-1 workers. We are following this closely and will continue to provide updates as this unfolds.
