May 2018 Visa Bulletin: EB3 India Advances by Several Months

Today, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) released the May 2018 Visa Bulletin. In it, the cutoff date for the employment-based, third preference (EB3) category for India moves forward by a few months. Also, a cutoff date is established for the employment-based, fifth preference (EB5) category for Vietnam. There is little-to-no movement in all other categories.

All cutoff date movement in this article refers to the final action (FA) chart.

Overview of Movement in Employment-Based Categories

The employment-based, first preference (EB1) category sees no movement from the previous month. Both China and India continue to be stuck with a January 1, 2012 cutoff date, while the category remains current for all other countries of chargeability.

In the employment-based, second preference (EB2) category, China’s cutoff date advances by one month to September 1, 2014. EB2 India holds still with a cutoff date of December 22, 2008.

In the EB3 category, India’s cutoff date moves ahead to May 1, 2008, an advance of three months. EB3 China holds stead with a cutoff date of June 1, 2015.

The cutoff dates for the EB3 other workers category match those of the standard EB3 category for all countries, except China. The EB3 other workers category for China advances by one month to May 1, 2007.

In the employment-based, fourth preference (EB4) category, the cutoff date remains current for all countries, except Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The EB4 for Mexico’s cutoff date moves forward to October 22, 2016. The cutoff date for the other three countries remains unchanged at December 1, 2015.

In the EB5 category, the July 22, 2014 cutoff date for China also remains unchanged. Meanwhile, this same cutoff date is now applied to EB5 Vietnam. The category remains current for all other countries of chargeability.
