NewsFlash! H1B Cap Count: 25,600 by April 9, 2012

The USCIS issued a cap count for H1B filings as of April 9, 2012. According to USCIS, 25,600 cap-subject H1B cases have been filed thus far this cap season. Of these filings, 8,200 were filed against the advanced-degree exemption; 17,400 were filed against the regular cap. The annual H1B cap limit is 65,000. There are an additional 20,000 cap exemptions available to those with U.S. advanced degrees (master’s or above).

This count is consistent with an announcement on April 4, 2012 indicating that a much higher level of filings is being seen for the fiscal year (FY) 2013 cap than was experienced in FY12. The annual cap count is updated and available on the USCIS WebSite. The Murthy Law Firm will continue to provide updated information throughout the FY13 H1B cap filing season.
