H.R. 1268 was signed into law by President George W. Bush on May 11, 2005. We predicted this Bill would be passed in our May 06, 2005 MurthyBulletin article, Bill May Provide Limited Relief for Retrogression and H2Bs, available on MurthyDotCom.

Immigration Aspects of Bill

As well as providing additional immigrant visa numbers for nurses and physical therapists, the law provides some limited relief for H2Bs and creates a new class of nonimmigrant worker visas for Australians.

The controversial Real ID Act was also included in the law. The Real ID Act changes asylum, refugee, and relief from removal provisions; creates new grounds of inadmissibility and removability pertaining to terrorism; and requires states to comply with certain driver's license and identification card standards.
