A press release on the official website of the Visa Facilitation Service
confirms that the American Consulate General in Hyderabad is scheduled to
commence visa operations on March 5, 2009. The Hyderabad Consular District
will serve visa applicants residing in the State of Andhra Pradesh, only.
Residents of other southern states or territories need to continue to apply
through the U.S. Consulate in Chennai.

The press release clarifies that applicants residing in Andhra Pradesh, who
have existing visa appointments at the U.S. Consulate, Chennai, may go ahead
with the visa interview as scheduled. For those who have not yet made visa
appointments, our affiliate, Murthy Immigration Services, Pvt. Ltd. in
Chennai has verified that the VFS website has started accepting applications
for visa interview dates for the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad, as of this
writing. It is not clear if the visa applications are being accepted for all
categories of visa. From our earlier update on this topic, U.S.
Consulate Hyderabad, India - January 2009 Update,
MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers learned that that the
official expectation for the consulate in Hyderabad was to initially
interview about 100 applicants per day, limited to the more common visa
categories like the B-1/B-2. Thus, it is not recommended that one cancel an
existing appointment.
