The USCIS WebSite has a new feature entitled, Faces of America. This page showcases interesting or unusual stories of naturalized U.S. citizens.

The first "face" is that of a 101-year-old Russian woman who suffered through the revolution, starvation, and war prior to immigrating to the United States. An online questionnaire is available for other naturalized citizens willing to share their lives or backgrounds. We know that many immigrants have amazing stories of their own journeys and personal experiences.

We at The Law Office of Sheela Murthy look forward to seeing more accounts of the immigrant experience, with all their similarities and variations. These personal histories enable citizens by birth, as well as those who come from different countries and cultures, to better grasp the true significance that lies in the choice to leave one's home and build a new life in a new country. Many immigrants endure financial hardship, as well as fear and awe of the unfamiliar that surrounds them daily, and the ever-present longing for the families they had to leave behind.

Kudos to the USCIS for putting a personal face on the procedures and statistics of immigration. These profiles on the USCIS website serve as a reminder that personal agonies and triumphs of real people exist behind every USCIS file or case number.
