The American Immigration Law Foundation (AILF) is celebrating the tenth
anniversary of the Immigrant Achievement Awards on Friday, March 18, 2005 in
Washington, D.C. Each year, AILF celebrates the myriad contributions of
immigrants to the fabric of this great nation in a variety of fields; the sciences, arts, humanities, astronomy, literature, etc. The
Washington, D.C. Chapter of the American Immigration
Law Foundation first started celebrating the contributions of immigrants to
the United States ten years ago, in 1995. This was such a popular idea that other
chapters, like New York and Chicago, emulated our model and held their own
successful events in these larger cities.

AILF's mission is to highlight the positive contributions of immigrants,
educate the public on immigration issues, and litigate, when necessary. The
Law Office of Sheela Murthy and The Murthy Foundation have been proud supporters
and contributors of AILF over the years. This celebration is an opportunity
to focus on the talents of immigrants to the United States. After all, we
are
a nation of immigrants. In a post-9/11 world, with so much
focus on security and outside threats, we tend to forget
that the "evil doers," who need to be dealt with severely, are a miniscule percentage of
the people of the world. We need to celebrate the wonderful
contributions of those who have helped to make the U.S. a stronger and
better country.
