Retrogressions Likely in March 2000 EB Immigrant Visa Numbers
Posted Jan 17, 2000

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has indicated that there will likely be retrogressions in the Employment Based (EB) Immigrant Visa numbers for both India and China. Although the DOS believes that the EB immigrant visa numbers are expected to remain current for the month of February 2000, there is a strong likelihood that, for Indian nationals, the second and third preferences are likely to retrogress in March 2000 to a cut off date of July 1999. China will probably remain current in March 2000.

As mentioned in an earlier edition of the Immigration Law Bulletin of the Law Office of Sheela Murthy, the decision of the INS to review I-485 adjustment applications at its Service Centers on a faster basis and an increase in immigrant visa processings at the U.S. consulates in India have both contributed to the likelihood of a retrogression in immigrant visa numbers in the next month or so.
