INS Issues Corrections to Naturalization Guide
Posted Apr 20, 1999

In our March, 1999 edition of The Law Office of Sheela Murthy Bulletin, we announced that INS had issued a helpful Guide to Naturalization. This Guide describes naturalization requirements in a clear manner that enables prospective applicants to find out whether they appear to be eligible. The Guide also contains useful information such as the list of citizenship test questions for which one needs to learn the answers to qualify to become a U.S. citizen.

In order to supplement and update the Guide, and to correct certain errors that were found, INS has also issued a correction sheet. It clarifies such items as the particular physical presence requirements for various types of applicants, issues related to military service and Selective Service registration, and disability exemptions from the English and civics requirements. It also contains corrections to the filing addresses for the California and Nebraska Service Centers.

Persons using the Naturalization Guide should also obtain the corrections sheet to ensure that they have the complete and correct information for filing for U.S. citizenship. If you have naturalization questions which are not addressed or fully answered by the Guide, you may wish to consult with an immigration attorney and if you do not have one, then feel free to contact The Law Office of Sheela Murthy.
