Comply with U.S. Tax Laws
Posted Mar 14, 2003

We remind MurthyDotCom and MurthyBulletin readers that the April 15th deadline for filing personal income tax returns is fast approaching. Tax returns for 2002 must be postmarked by midnight April 15, 2003. Foreign nationals should be painstaking in their efforts to comply with all U.S. laws. This includes the important requirement to comply with U.S. tax laws and pay any taxes owed. Many types of immigration cases depend to a large extent on demonstrated compliance with tax laws.

As The Law Office of Sheela Murthy, P.C. practices exclusively in the area of U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law, we cannot give advice on the specialized area of tax law, other than to urge readers to investigate tax requirements and comply in all respects. Any questions should be directed to a qualified, reputable tax professional. There are some unlicensed and unscrupulous tax preparers who will take advantage of unwitting foreign nationals, unfamiliar with U.S. laws

For further guidance in this area, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) WebSite is a helpful resource. Some pertinent IRS publications are referenced in our March 22, 2002 article, Tax Deadline Approaching.
