The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has
announced
that it is initiating a Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP). This
program, which will begin February 20, 2007, is designed to provide a
unified inquiry point for travelers experiencing screening problems due to
watch list misidentification and other improper delays. There have been
reports by the news media of instances when certain individuals share names with individuals
who appear on the government's high security watch list, and then endure
delays each and every time they attempt to travel by air. The goal would be to correct
the information in the DHS systems, to avoid repeated problems and to better
utilize resources.

The system is intended to allow legitimate travelers a method for reporting
the problems that they experience with security. An individual who has been
forced to undergo additional security screening on more than one occasion
will be able to file an inquiry with DHS. This will allow the information to
be corrected. The DHS TRIP system will provide a centralized contact point
for seeking redress, so that the recurring problem is set right. The system will then route the requests to the
areas
within DHS that are creating the travel delays for the individual.

Details on how to file and track an inquiry will be provided once the system
is in place. If this system works as intended, it will allow legitimate
travelers to move through security without extended delays every time they
travel. MurthyDotCom and
MurthyBulletin readers can expect to see more information on this process as
and when it becomes available.
