NSC Errors
of Some I-485 Approval Notices
Prior to May 1998
The
Nebraska Service Center (NSC) recently realized that it has, over the
past several weeks and months, issued some incorrect I-797 Approval Notices
in the direct-mail employment based I-485 applications.
The I-485
Approval Notice should have directed the adjustment applicant whose I-485
Petition was approved to go to his/her INS local office to be processed
for the fingerprinting for the I-89 and issuance of the permanent resident
card, the NSC advised certain I-485 applicants that they could expect
to receive their I-551 green cards in the mail within a few months.
If the applicant
has never been to the INS Service Center Office for processing of the
ADIT card, then this approval notice is incorrect. The NSC is in the process
of reviewing files in which it might have issued an I-797 Approval Notice
using the incorrect language. The NSC has agreed that it will, on its
own accord issue a revised notice advising the I-485 applicant and his/her
family to visit the INS Service Center having jurisdiction over that person
for processing of the ADIT card.
It may be
better and faster to contact your attorney if a person is affected by
this incorrect approval notice rather than waiting for the NSC to examine
its files and reissue approval notices with the appropriate information.
