Update on the Adjustment of Status for Asylees
Prior to May 1998

In a March 6, 1998 Memo, Michael A. Pearson, the Executive Associate Commissioner of INS provided an update on asylee adjustment procedures for Fiscal Year 1998. Since all of the 10,000 asylee adjustments have been granted for this fiscal year, no further grants may be processed until October 1, 1998. All cases already granted should be forwarded to the Nebraska Service Center. This allows for centralization of those cases in order to arrive at an accurate count and, if any further action must be taken, it can be consistently applied by the NSC.

All notifications of change of address of applicants should also be forwarded to the Nebraska Service Center soon as it is received.

INS adjudicators may however, continue to interview asylum applicants for the following year's quota.
