Although there were some major complaints in late 1996 about the 900 system used to schedule visa appointments in Canada and Mexico, the process appears to have now stabilized.

Under the present rules, an entire family can be booked in one appointment number and there is some leeway provided for those calling from the West Coast, so that all the choice appointments have not been taken away by the East-Coast callers for a particular date.

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has taken into consideration the comments provided by the American Immigration Lawyers Association and others to streamline the 900 appointment system and make it more efficient. Applicants can obtain further information on the 900 appointment system, as well as schedule appointments on-line, via a special website, www.nvars.com established by the DOS.
